Ornate and friend(s)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Its probably still to young to tell but to me looks like it could be male. I dont think it's mature yet though. It's funny until my dels hit 8-9 inches I thought they were both female. Then all of a sudden tthe fin widened and got real bulgy around the base and I would catch them cupping the fin. So it can change overnight.
It would be a pleasant surprise to have an elusive male as it seems they are fairly rare in the hobby. I guess time will tell

Good question. I’m not sure exactly how to tell. I might be able to ask the lfs if they know.

Thanks! It is not that serious, but I`m quite curious about it.

Some people around here can usually tell. I cant see the difference even when pointed out usually, so I'm of no help here. Maybe J jaws7777 kno4te kno4te Hao Hao could shine some light on it.

Ornates are harder to tell. Supposedly wild are dull and cb are brighter in color (brighter colors sell better) but was never able to confirm. I’d say urs is cb just because of the size and girth it has which is seen with cb fish atleast in some of the photos. Hao Hao may have some more input.
