ive been keeping senegals for a while and i like the ornates but i need some advice/info from experienced keepers of ornates before i actually pic 1 up. and info or ur experiences would be helpful. im curious about aggression with other bichirs and just behavior in general.

thanks,
Ian

People say they are the most aggressive of the bichir species but my 2 guys doesnt mind any fish. In my tank its endlicheris who are the bad boys. But ornates are also a pretty active swimmer

11"-12" maybe, Only have mixed sand, some larger rocks spread out and low lightning which make them look good and swim around alot :)

nice theyre beautiful. should i anticipate any territorial aggression if it were in with the senegals? and ur endlicheris are pretty aggressive?

I have 3 Ornates and there is no aggression with any of my bichirs. it really depends on the individual fish

thanks. thats kind what i figured. are they fairly active? also any idea of what a reasonable price would be for one?

My ornate lives with a couple gar, and a delhezi he is 12" and has no aggression I suggest dimming the light for his tank, I found once I dimmed my lighting mine became way more activite during the day, as for eating I find them to be pigs I feed my bichir shrimp, earth worms and leaches 2 times a week. Of course if yours is small it will need more food then that a week.
