Very. And they won't be able to eat any of your stock.
Others that might work are Delhezi, Palmas polli, palmas buettikoferi, palmas palmas, and many others.

And another one that I really like are ansogii.

A sene can still take down an African butterfly fish. It will usually start with just nip on the fins till it will get stress out and die. My former 10" sne was able to this with my former 4" african butterfly evern though the sene are always well feed. Bichirs are not the same lazy fish that you see during the lights on when you turn the lights off.

I wasn't aware they bothered anything that wouldn't fit in their mouth.
I've kept mine with juvie green terrors and a juvie festae. My 8" one I used to have was with a 1" frontosa and never bothered them.
I just figured a full grown butterfly would go good with any of the bichirs that max out about 14"or smaller. Might be wrong though.

I could go without the butterflys this doesnt bother me, is 48 long by 28 wide to small of a footprint for a BGK, Fire eel, and a scene ? There will be numerous tunnels under the substrate and caves above however it will be better to find out the easy way now rather than the hard way later when they are to big.

I keep my 12 inch ornate with 2 FH's, a GT, and a pleco in a 180g. My smaller FH always has nipped fins and the ornate is always ploting to eat him.

It all depends on the individual fish. You can predict what will most likely happen, but "always" and "never" don't work with fish behaviour. I've had kribs that would leave ghost shrimp and guppy fry alone. In the case of the guppy fry, I was annoyed, I was counting on them for fry control. I've also had a pair of kribs that would kill anything not their mate. One reason I keep multiple tanks(at least that's what I tell the wife!)

So a sen could be in a tank with another sen with little problems? What about a sen with another species of bichir? I hear so many different things that contradict each other. I was going to get another sen to go in with the one I have. Now I don't know if I should. this is a good thread, made me think a little more about getting another bichir.

any problems with aggression?

The more bichirs you add the less aggression there is, as the aggression level spread, they can't focus on fighting one another. When it comes to bichirs aggression is not really an issue but the food is more important as bichirs hardly fight each other. Even if they fight, they can't really cause critical damage to each other. It's usually baby bichirs are more feistier than adult bichirs, as they compete for survival and their siblings are just another protein to boost up their growth rate. That's why you'll see more baby bichirs at size 4" or smaller with damage body parts or deformed body parts.

I just had to pull a medium sized silver dollar out of the mouth of my 6'' ornate.
It ate 2 x 4'' bala sharks last weekend.

Its a P.I.T.A
