Not sure about two species being in the hobby but I am quite sure there are at least two "Ornatums" in the wild. The remote areas where these fish come from are largely unexplored
and it is well known that at least one other exists. Many years ago (I think around 1984) Paul Loiselle did a series of articles on American cichlids in FAMA. It was quite informative at the time. One of the fish he talks about he named the black dempsey, it was a Ornatum or subspecies of it....

To the best of my understanding, there are three that are all called "ornatum". This info came from a friend that deals with Oliver lucanis, and said that info was from him. So at this point it is 4th person. But my resource is reliable. Although it will not be sharred without first the persons discrestion.

But I am completely unsure of how many of these "three" are available in the hobby. And I know that the ones that are available are by no means "common". Either way, you have such nice fish Mel, I am always happy to see your videos and pictures. Great cichlid keeper!!

I've seen on the Web alot one like yours. With the green color and others mostly gray brown. I've always wonder if they were two different types. All examples were adults as well so I know it wasn't juvies vs adults
