O's With Arowana

3" silver aros shouldn't be kept with any tankmates let alone SA cichlids. Wait until your aro is about 10" then keep with cichlids only half the aros size.

Not according to your original post. Do you really beleive that there is a huge amount of difference between a 3" and 4" arowana? I can see that you are the "do what ya want, no matter what anyone says" type, so hopefully you'll luck out an not end up with a dead aro.

Oscars vary so much in personality from fish to fish. Most of the time it should be fine, just be wary.

i can tell you from personal experience that arowana and oscars should be watched CAREFULLY in a tank together.

i had a couple little oscars (that are now big oscars) and a 6 - 7 inch arowana (who is now over 2 ft). and the little brat oscars ganged up on my itty bitty baby arowana and she couldn't defend herself. thank goodness my (now ex) hubby was here to stop the carnage before my arowana was seriously injured.

we made a refugium out of a plastic tub near the top of the tank to keep the aro safe and bought 3 more aquariums. the oscars moved into one of the new aquariums.

so if you ask for my opinion as to whether to keep a small aro with more than one oscar. the answer is a resounding.. NO.

I would also wait until the Silver is around 10 inches. That's about the time when they start to bulk up a bit. Oscars grow pretty fast themselves and just because the arowana is longer doesn't mean it will be bigger. Not to mention they are very skittish, especially when they are that small and even if the oscars aren't picking on it, just having them swim close to the silver might still freak it out enough to have it jump around. I wouldn't risk it.

Ok maybe I'll wait but well see.
