excellent fish for handfeeding.
Mine are very gentle and are cool with all the tankmates.

I just love them, they're the main stars of my tank.

Love that 3D bg

Love my oscar grew him since very small now he is a giant (gentle giant) my oscar would be the last fish i would get rid of. Very tame tries to grab the food out of my hand before i can throw it in the tank, gets along well with my geos, catfish, silver dollars and others.

I highly recommend getting an oscar to anyone who has the space to keep one, beautiful looking fish too.

I have owned my oscar for 7 years, he is around 8 years old though b/c he was already 1 year old when I got him. I think 8 years is old for an oscar. He was one of the first fish I ever owned. I just moved him back to his bigger tank so he is much happier now. Here is a pic taken about 5 months ago of him:

Very HUNGRY. Always looking for food, emotional. Moody when I clean the tank. I love oscars though.

I thought oscars lived long lives....know someone who had an oscar live 15 years....

love oscars...can't wait to get mine. clowns in thier own right...lol

my advice would be that if you do put other fish in the tank, you do either:

a) fish that are too big to eat
b) fish that are too fast to eat

I have seen Oscars swallow slow-moving fish whole, especially catfish . . . it's not pretty, and it can be dangerous to the Oscar (and the catfish, too)

Extremely gentle giant he has never attacked my hand or his takemates(hes 7" one mate is 2")
if he had the option i think he would never stop eating tho haha
thankfully he knows whats food and whats not

love this fish - superb personality :)

Hello there, I am new to this site. I have an 8 inch orange and white oscar, he was a rescue fish. "Oscar" is about 4 years old, he has the best personality, he lolls from side to side as he swims, almost a rocking motion. He has a diviot of pebbles in his 150 gallon tank where he sleeps and rests. He had a mate that died, that is how I got him. I had my tank arranged a certain way when he came to live with us, he has cleaned house to his liking. He is like a bull dozer. But I love his very charming and gentle personality. I would say having an oscar is very easy. Oh yea, I do not feed him live food.
