Not always. Sometimes they will only top out at 12 even if you take perfect care of them.

You could grow an oscar out to full size in a 10 gallon if you change the water enough. Its not so much the foot print of the tank that stunts it but the water quality.

True, my red is 12'' after 3-4 yrs and is in a tank 20'' wide with the water being turned over X 8, 35-40% wc's per week, with spot cleaning from day one on a hikari, market prawn, live yabbie, ghost shrimp, cricket, meal worm and gut loaded gambusia diet.

his first post was: face+palm= disappointment in fellow human being, what are his water params, in a 55gal im gunna guess he's flashing from ammonia.

And his second before he edited it goes something like the title of this thread should be change from oscar goes retarded to irresponsible fish keeper, and that was before natobxny even told him anything about his fish keeping.
