First, let me say that I'm rooting for this fish. I'll be anxious for more photo/video evidence of his recovery.

Second, I think some people need to take a step back and put this in perspective. No comparison between the fish owner suffering a serious injury/receiving treatment and this $5 oscar's situation need be made. It's a fish that has a couple seconds of memory and whose entire internal structure works differently than ours in a situation like this. It's not a human being. We lose a leg, they stop the bleeding and give us an artificial leg. Nobody is gonna give this fish a new tail, but there is nothing wrong with giving it a chance to survive on it's own.

This is not a gold fish, it's memory is longer than a couple seconds.... I agree that if it's not suffering and has a chance of survival, it should not be killed, but don't use false information to support your argument

If the fish is still alive and eating then let it continue on, let nature do its thing.
People lose some limbs? Put him down ? No we try our best to make it better.
Who's to say it won't grow back even if it wont grow back then who is to say the owner won't be able to give it a decent life ?
Good luck

I'd argue that even goldfish have a memory that spans significantly longer than a few seconds. Otherwise, how would it be possible to train them?

So do you suggest giving it an artificial caudal fin, or should we just give it a wheelchair?

goldfish have a complex memory have bigger brains than most cichlids. Also goldfish act in a much more intelligent manner. I have no clue where those rumors come from that goldfish are dumb.

As the owner said, it swims around and eats so it has it's way of moving. So before artificial legs and arms were available did we just kill the person ? There are people in poverty with missing arm or leg shall we march over and shoot them ?

Moronic to compare fish to humans, or any other life form on this planet to human. Humans are not kept as pets, nor are they the main coarse on someones dinner plate, right? So why would anyone even consider that a person should be killed like an animal that needs to be put out of it's misery:duh:

Actually, before artificial legs and arms, they were given wheelchairs or crutches.
