"Dispersal northward in Florida appears to be restricted by temperature. A 1982 Florida Game and Freshwater Fish Commission study determined the mean lower lethal temperature for this species is 12.9° C. In its native range, the oscar is valued by artisanal fishers as a food fish." Florida museaum of Natural History. If your heart is set on putting them in a pond you could use heaters as previously posted (IT wont take much to keep a small pond heated in Arizona in the winter), and that would solve the temperature issue.

12.9c is 55f.... His temp. is lower than this already. Won't work.

Im still keeping fish and will forever and ever till i die. My Oscar (ROCKY) is still alive, his bio, 6 months ago i bought a teacup ray and guy offerd me a free oscar cause he wouldnt sell, imagine a beat up oscar, i dont gotta explain. so i took him and had him in his own 40g recovery/ training tank. Thank you Warmouth they do live in flordia doesnt matter if its not there origin just like a mexican lives in America they crossed the border so what they can if they want to. i just want this oscar so see a great nature that he belongs in, neither should any fish even if they were raised in a tank. Get the picture? but we all still do that, The fishes origin shouldnt matter like a parachromis managuensis is south america but the one you have, his origin was in a breeders tank, not south america. thats where the original ancestors are from. cycled), but anyways i dont give a F... what you have to say. you should see what they do to dogs, cats, mamals, bears, and most of all HUMANS. THE BEAR WILL EAT A HUMAN! thats what its supposed to do, FISH EAT FISH, and i know most ppl feed there fish live fish and thats not ****ed up but this is hahhhh, i dont know guys, what do you think. This doesnt apply to everyone just the stuck up ones, IM a mexican and i live in usa and my oscar is from south america but he lives in maryland!

It isn't the nature, it's a colder than normal pond.
derp.

that will work you have to prep him like training him like week by week like lowering the temp in the tank as low as you can get without filteration but do it very slowly dont rush the oscar or it will be fatal. I have actually preped my 12 inch oscar that i wanted to get rid of because he was such a problem for me. I have a creek behind my house and its not small im talking about 20 miles untill it hits some larger bodies of water. and every week i would take 10 gallons from the creek and pour it into a 40 gallon i had him in for training and i would lower the temps by 5 degress every week and if the water wasnt cold enough i would go to the creek at night and get 5 gallon ands drop it in there. the creek water is not clean at all so this was a huge change for him. i live in maryland, around the edges between md and va you can find oscars/ snake heads in the waters but the snakeheads are being put out by anyone who catches them, but your not doing creek water ne ways, so i made a rock divider that he can not get past or back the other way and it is about 10 feet long from divideer to divider and no hiding spots, so i can check on him, but its been about 6 weeks and hes still there. its about in the 50-60degress here at night maybe 45 n up but its getting colder and colder i dont think he will survive the winter. but your way will work just train him they are hardy fish.
