Tank size will only help so much. The only way it helps an oscars growth is by providing more water space so the water will be cleaner. An oscar really could reach it's full size in a 20 gallon, and I've seen 13'' oscars in a twenty gallon (though i would NOT recommend doing that). Assuming overfilteration is used, the tank is not heavily or overstocked, and the oscar is not stressed out from a larger predator, the oscar could reach 14 inches or more. Largest I've heard of was 20'' and was a wild caught fish from florida. The record is a around 20.5'' i believe.

heard and read, or even seen from a pic is useless.

GET A RULER.

beleive me i'm a fisherman, if anybody knows how to make a fish, sound Big to buddies or Look big in a pic- it's me.

nobody has shown me a oscar over 16". people claim 18" and now 20.5".

ruler pic or nothing fella's. i would suggest not bothering to post, if you can't back it up

Yeah, I agree, you really need to put a measuring tape beside a fish to really show how long it is. OR a good picture, such as Nutcase's in a 5 gallon pale ( which are usually ~11 3/8" at the widest) with the fish pretty much exactly in the middle of the pale.

Nutcase's oscars look BIG. Yet they are "only" 11 1/2" long! They are very thick and deep bodied. weight is actually a much better indication of the size of a fish, then length is.

Sometimes it is very deceiving with out actually putting a tap measure to a fish. Big Fish are sometimes not nearly as long as they seem to be and sometimes very small fish are a little longer then you expect, when you actually put it beside a maesuring tape.

yup... mine haven't gotten any longer in 2 or 3 years... but they have definitely put on weight in those years...

fisherman would know and when one is caught in a lake it is often measured, I dont at all doubt 18 or 20 inches, you guys need to open your minds

lol @ opening our minds...

you guys need to stop being lead by your imagination...

...all in fun and with a smile...

12-16" 16 is a damn big oscar that doesn't happen too often.
