oscar needs a friend(suggestions)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the 14incher was put in cause the tank had really bad algae now that he and the albino cleared that up i am thinking of put the 14incher back in to pond in the yard. so it would just be the O and the sail fin...and yes i enjoy the albino sailfin. do you think i still need to upgrade tanks. can i add small dithers...maybe some danios or maybe even some blue rams. thanks for all the good input and help coming my way.

I'd say a Featherfin cat (synodontis eupterus) or other bottom dweller. I have a 150 but still I have a few fish in there and they all get along. 2 Oscars (12" and 6.5"), Green Terror (8"), Jack Dempsey (6"), Featherfin cat (6.5") and 3 clown loaches (3 - 3.5")

The Big O did try to eat the clown loaches when he was smaller but he learned his lesson quickly and has not touched them in well over a year, you might have luck with them as well.

My Big O rules the tank followed by the GT and all the other fish are just trespassers but they only get chased every once in a while, nothing major.

I have 6 Giant Danio's Danio malabaricus and a featherfin syno in with mine he never bothers them. ;)

I agree with chile. you need to get rid of that 14" pleco of yours, and don't get anything else, even after you do. that one sailfin alone, combined with the O, will make all the bioload your tank can handle. PLEASE, don't get antything else!

sad but i understand...just the sailfin and the o...i have more then enough filtration for the two fish...so i guess one boring tank for a while...

not really. the O is sure to be entertaining, and the sailfin will look quite impressive and cool once he tops 10".

I've kept O's becuase I find'em very entertaining not boring.
Set the tank up so the pleco can't hide hide, i.e. that is set it up so that even if under something he is visible.
Try feeding the Pleco only during daylight with fresh veggies/fruit so as to encourage activity.

You don't have to keep the Sailfin, toss his butt in the pond too and get some dithers/targets or a medium sized cichlid.
