My 4" JD passed away for some unknown reason :( and was planning on either getting an oscar or midas/rd mix to replace him. Can't decide on what i want. Anyone got any suggestions and why i should choose them :D?

i sold my oscar for a red devil, beautiful fish but i liked my oscar better, way better coloration, personality and ate jsut about everything even jumped to get food from my fingers, the red devils okay but a very picky eater which i hate, i use to feed my oscar table scraps, fruits bugs anything but the devil only eats pecific walmart pellets.

RD / Midas for glassbanging fun :) Mine is only 4" or so atm, but he's probably the best fish I've had (haven't had an oscar, so I may be bias, but I've had a ton of other fish). He's always at the front of the tank ready to greet me, eats like a pig, gets along great with my poly. All oscars I see don't seem like a lot of fun in those regards, they remind me of sloths. No offense

EDIT: make sure he has midas in him, that's where the fun and personality is imo. If you can get pure midas, even better. Mine is from petsmart so I assume he's a mix, but oh well. I couldn't decide between an RD and midas, so I get both and I'm pleased.

Yes you can't beat a Midas when it comes to personality.
They are always begging for food and sometimes banging the glass. Also I love the digging in the gravel, but I believe Oscars do that as well.

What tank size will he be in?

a 75gallon tank for either the single oscar or midas, depending on what else would go with them, maybe a poly with the oscar, dont know much about RD/Midas much more familiar with oscars

Midas/RD hands down. More personality overall than Oscars.. and they may "kiss" you when they get to a decent size lol.

well whats the tank size...if it is at least 75G i consider the Midas
