Oscar Progess and Updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really she is an easy going fish. If it's her territory all she ever did was a "taste test bite" letting them now it's her house, but you seem cool and can stay. Never attacked fins or anything like that. Catness and her swimming in place all the time was just a big teasing target, that tail flapping back and forth all the time. She never attacked it.
But going into ponds will be a different story. Not her "turf" so should be different.
That's what I was getting at, the abundance of bugs to hunt. The Oscar's are going to LOVE that, and probably bulk up a lot over the summer.

Laz is so funny. I have this lapis ball. Its was a decoration in a bhudist theme goldfish display. i gave it to Laz just to see if he'd do anything with it. He rolls it across the floor of the tank and tucks it behind the air stone. If I move it he puts it back like "stop messing with my stuuuff!!"20180906_205011.jpg

From my own experiences, fish more often do better outside. There are somethings mother nature does that we just can't replicate.

Several of the koi and goldfish that were in the 1500 were rescues that were adopted out at the end of July. So the stock is farily low right now. Going to try to keep it low so the oscars dont feel crowded and defensive when I put them in. There will be no shortage of bugs. Just wait til the cicadas start hitting the water! Those cat fish get mega fat on cicadas

Checked on Toni this evening and she seems to be doing ok. She will come to the front of the glass now instead of sulking with her back to me at least. I plan to turn on regular lights when I get home in the morning and will offer some food. Going to leave the curtian up on the tank for a few more days tho. The abrasion she got behind her eye during shipping is already looking better. I haven't seen her try to fight her reflection yet but she hates my dog. Every time I move the curtian to check on her, if she sees him its game on!

Did she eat? Last time she ate was Sunday night. If refusing her Carnisticks try frozen blood worms/ brine shrimp she normally eats those even when mad at me and refusing food.

Just fed her. She had 5 carnisticks, 2 pieces of krill and last I offered her a taste of the gel food I use. She mangled and spit out alot of the krill but everything else was taken enthusiastically.

This is her first feeding in several days so I wanted to go a little light on her so she doesn't over do it and get sick. I will offer her two feedings tmrw.

She does that with krill, eats the good bits. Catness normally got the rest so didn't have to clean up the leavins. I tried presoaking it, but she likes them crunchy and didn't eat the presoaked ones.
