Hey how big are the Oscars anyhow?

Its a good idea to take her filter/filter media/gravel from her tank whenever u get the fish because u cant be sure how much load the oscars will cause necausewe don't know how big they are.

Seeing as you have 0 nitrite 0 nitrate, you haven't cycled at all yet unfortunately.

Well done with the patience though!

:uhoh: I have been asking how big they were for the last 2 days :wall: , Hopefully I'll actually find out tomorrow when my wife talks to her friend

As far as the used filter stuff, I dont know the whole story with it. The tank is going to the fathers house or something, I'm not sure what the deal is

As far as the patience  its tough!!, I want them now!!.....but I want happy, healthy Oscars, plus I want these to be my buddies for the next ten years :)

you don't want a pleco. they become quite large and create more waste than they remove. water changes will do a much better job than the pleco.

So far everything I have read said they make good tank mates with O's (According to www.Oscarfish.com )

you really don't want 3 Os either. 125g seems like a lot of water but isn't, not for large fish. plus three is the disaster number. almost certainly two will gang up on the third, making its life miserable until finally just killing it.

if all this weren't enough you've got such high ammo you'll probably kill them yourself. Os are very sensitive to bad water. since your tank isn't cycled you'll need to do massive water changes daily. you might be able to squeak by if you do these changes and keep on top of your numbers. adding a seeding media and bio-spira, as others have suggested, will help. but you're still left w/the problem of 3 incompatible fish which, if they live, you'll have become quite attached to.

you might want to pass the free fish and go back to your original plan of fishless cycling.

I actually only want 2 Oscars and maybe (maybe) a couple of other tank mates (other than a pleco, Im not sure what else I would want)

Plus I think my tank is going to take at least another 2 1/2 weeks to cycle so this deal probably wont work out

I just thought 3, hopefully full sized, Oscars would be cool since they were free and already grown, So I may end up not doing this at all. Again www.oscarfish.com says you can put 3 in a 125 buts its the minumum size tank and its not really recommended due to the waste

Ammonia still 8.0+ and no nitrates.:(

I dont have heaters yet so Im sure this is playing a big part of it, Ill be ordering some shortly

There is also no word from my wifes co-worker, so at this point, I have pretty much decided just to buy 2 O's and a pleco from petsmart (when the tank is ready)

Even if it isent ready, Imho oscars last through cycles. my brothers last his cycle from day 1. i know its not good fro them, but it survived. good luck though. they should be fine

Maybe it's for the greater good. Now you'll get to let 2 oscars pick you out at the lfs.

Watch there eyes.

8th day of cycling with no heater, Ammonia 8.0+, Nitrate 0

Would not having a filter pad on top of my drip tray affect anything, should I get one?

I found two already paired together that were both looking at me, I wanted to buy them right then  But then I remembered how much ammonia I had in my tank and how I would only hurt them:(

Soon though :headbang2
