I've been doing some reading about Oscars on this forum particularly and I'm looking for some specific opinions. I'm not looking for "You'd need a blahblahblah footprint" or "how big is your tank," What I really want to know is, assuming the tank size is the perfect size for the suggested fish, what are possible tank mates for an oscar? In other words, I am asking about the compatibility of temperaments/aggression.

In my experience, oscars that are raised with other tank mates usually become less aggressive than most cichlids. I did, however, own an oscar that I raised alone from a baby to adulthood, and he killed everything I tried to put with him.

I'm not a huge fan of silver dollars/tinfoils, and am looking for something more like an Acara, Frontosa, or even Dovii. Has anyone kept an Oscar with any of these fish? Opinions and suggestions are more than welcomed!

Acara are good, frontosa I would say no but that's cause I don't mix continents. Dovii is definite no.
I've personally found severum,JD,green terrors, firemouths to all be good Oscar companions

JD can be good tank mates, I have 2 JD with mine, mating pair, but as much has you not want to hear it, tank size really has allot to do with what you want with your Oscar. at a 150 there are lots of options, at 75 and smaller really are not many.

You don't think that a JD would pick on a more mellow oscar?

Depends on whose bigger and older. A adult or larger Oscar in my experience will do fine with JDs. A really small Oscar with bigger JDs is usually not a good combo.and tank size and hiding places is a component

I have a 125. There's a 10in tiger oscar for sale at an LFS that I have my eye on. Would a smaller JD be appropriate?

Yea so long as it isn't small enough to be eaten

Yea.. I've got a dotted severum and an electric blue jack Dempsey with mine. I had a Gold Saum also but was only a juvenile so only lasted a month before the Oscar caught him. He's also eaten 4 clown loaches, 2 guppies and 1 neon tetra. He's not highly aggressive.. but watch out for anything that's small enough to fit in its mouth and fast movements!
