I have an oscar in a 125 w a jag and a polleni plus a school of sd. Dempsey had to be regimes for constantly beating the oscar
Severums, and chocolates work great IME.. lots of possibilities with oscars as long as fish arnt small enough to swallow or to big and aggressive
Awesome, so what you guys are basically saying is anything semi aggressive but not dovii status should be okay as long as it won't fit in the Oscars mouth.. But if the Oscar is on the mellow side and I were to get a JD or Jag, make sure it's not bigger than the Oscar?

Jags are not good Oscar tank mates ime. My jag has killed two different Oscars. One that was 11 inches when he was 9 inches and a another that was his equal at 12 inches.parachromis aren't the best match for Oscars just in my experience and opinion

Convicts are the perfect tank mate for an oscar. Severums, firemouths, chocolates are all good to. Try to keep the temperment on the same level as an oscar (semi aggressive). A jd & green terror can work to, but their growth rates curbs at 6" while the oscar grows 1"+ a month till 10". Anything that will fit in eats mouth will end up there.
You "might" be able to get away with a female jag...MIGHT. I'd try to stay away from parachromis/amphilophus species to be honest & larger CA's in general. A male jag or dovii will be a death sentence for an oscar.
I've kept a severum, convict, a black ghost knife, jd, and a feather fin syno with different oscars no probs except the occassional hospital tank trip for the smaller mates.

Parachromis will eventually be to much most likely. Smaller jacks, gt, salvini, ect if you want more aggressive. . And I emphasize smaller. Had a salvini growing out with my oscar. Everything was fine till the salvini caught up to the oscars size (grew fast) and then I had to do a tank swap cause the oscar couldn't handle the aggression. I beefed the oscar up and put them together again and no probs. Oscars make a great tank boss. Mine would often catch the salvini picking on the green terror and stop him.
