My Jag was doing the same with those Fluval river rocks you can buy.... they are between 1/2 to a 2-3 golfball sized. I swear he was picking small to medium sized ones up and throwing them at the side of the glass trying to make an escape. Removed them all; that sound of big rocks hitting the glass worried me a great deal.
Additions for decorations: I like driftwood, bigger rocks... also female convicts (a relatively new and pleasant additional to my Oscar tank). They certainly provide mine with some 'enrichment'.
