Oscar tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good luck to you. Oscars were what got alot of us into the hobby. They are so common too common that IMO the unknowing end up with them and the experienced discount them. If they weren't so readily available they would no doubt be "the" fish not the one that ends up on the wrong tank or the wrong tankmates.

Ya for multiple Oscars you're talking a big tank. Bigger than normal home aquarium size you might find in most stores

Ita really sad that the O is probably the most abused of all fish along with goldfish and bettas. Millions sold a year and probably very few kept correctly.

I'm not set on a certain size, yet. I'm still in the planning stage. Depending on how many O's I plan on. There's a 12 foot wall in the new house that I've got the okay on. I might go 12 feet long, 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall. 500 or so gallons.

that would be a nice multi oscar tank long as you add some dithers.

Lucky you, my wife only gave me approval for up to a 220 gallon aquarium when we move in a couple months lol. That's a cool idea that you have with the different types of Oscars man, can't wait to see the setup.

woah that's quite the oscar tank. it may not be necessary nor recommended to have a 12 foot long tank filling the entire wall. maybe a 10 foot long one with a foot at each end so that you can go in and do maintenance on the 3 foot deep sides, including algae scrubbing, filter hoses etc. still plenty big enough to have like 8 different oscars. not to mention moving a 12 foot tank would be a logistical nightmare.

i'm planning an identical 10x3x2 along my 12 foot wall but it will be housing a couple bigger showpiece fish - arowanas, etc. my current 6x2x2 is my oscar/SA cichlid tank.

The wild type oscars are awesome, in my opinion way prettier than the domestically bred types. I'm not sure of their availability, though, as I know they can't be exported from Brazil since they're considered a food fish
