hi all! i have 2 oscars curently , 1 albino 3 inch and 1 tiger 2.5 inch. was wondering if you guys could help me chose some other tank mates? was thking of adding a severum and a black ghost knife fish? and my LFS said they are out of stock but i can place an order ... he asked me if i wanted a albino or a common severum or smthg like that ? i said i dnt knw il tell him later so what do you guys thk i should add albino or another? thx :) its a temporary 75 gallon tank im upgrading in sme time when the fish grow

Oscars are hit or miss. Some kill everything you put with it, some are fine with tankmates. Usually, large cichlids and cats do well ( by large, I mean similar size and growth rate). Cats should be a little bigger, but not big enough to eat the Oscar.

My oscar is fine with a severum, geos, a bichir, clown loaches, even some much smaller festivums. I definitely wouldn't recommend keeping small fish with them (he devours most fish under 2"), but mine is actually fine with some fish he could definitely eat, but there is definitely risk involved and most oscars probably aren't like this.

x2

Regarding cichlids; Jack Dempseys, Jag's, adult convicts, geo's are good.
Otherwise large plecs are def a good idea

...but please, make sure ur fish are properly fed, that ur tanks is big enough for all these fish, and that ur filtration is sufficient and u keep a close eye on all tank activity.

Good luck !

i have 1 8 inch Oscar,11 inch catfish,6 1/2 inches tinfoil and a 4 inch jag in a 250 gallon. in a 75 you could probely get away with tinfoil barbs

I heard of success stories with both BGK and severums.
But it indeed comes down to the temperament of your oscar.
My oscar is very layed back and even lived together with a small ceylon barb for some months, until my gar decided to eat the barb in the end.

especially with the BGK you will need a bigger tank .
Not that they grow that fast, but you will need to start out with a difference in size, so that the oscar may not try to eat the BGK.
Any ideas how big the new tank is gonna be?

ive had success with silver dollars, chocolate cichlids, firemouths, vieja argentea, and severums so far. but this is also in a 180 gallon tank.
