I just bought a 125 gallon fish tank with the intent of getting 3-4 Oscars, but my wife wants me to put more fish in the tank. I have heard that African Cichlids are generally smaller than Oscars. If this is true, about how many African Cichlidscan I put in a 125 gallon tank? Also, are they as aggressive as Oscars? I was planning feeding Oscars live feeders 2-4 times a month. Will most African Cichlidseat live feeders too? As you can see, I'm new to Cichlids. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the Africans would pound your Oscar, they can be quite nasty; and most Oscars are wusses. Then again, I haven't kept africans so we'll see what others say

That would be a weird tank oscars with african cichlids i would stick to one type of cichlid ,oscars are american so maybe go for something from that region , youv got alot of tank space but oscars get big so maybe summet like a electric blue jack dempsey or some convicts .. firemouths , blue acara have a look at some of those

If they are of the same size, the Africans are more than likely going to be too aggressive for the O's.

3-4 adult Oscars will be too crowded for a 125

Oscars eat pretty much everything, so no need to give feeders. Avoid feeders as they can carry parasites/diseases that can be transferred to your fish

A 125 is big enough for only 2 Oscars and there's no guarantee that they wont beat the crap out of each other. Oscars and Africans don't mix at all 2 different types of fish with 2 different types of water requirements. As far as live feeders go it's not a good idea to feed them to your fish, as stated above the risk of disease's and parasite's been passed on is very high.

Try Frontosas. Big, personable African will surely take live food. In a 125 you could probably swing 4 of them in a 125.

I had 4 frotosas with my Midas, red devil, Texas and all sorts of cichlids. The frontosas grew huge and nothing bothered them even as juveniles. I did have a yellow lab and some sort of African cichlid. It was in a 200 gallon and I was stocked.
