Yeah you're lucky you came to MFK lol. This is going to save you a lot of grief. Both get too big for a 55g. It would be cruel once it grows up and they both grow pretty quickly. My Jags are huge gluttons for food and always begging lol.

i think one oscar would be fine in a 55g, but a jag is out of the question. if you want a colorfull fish and a planted tank you should go with a pair of jd's
i have a bunch of cichlids and never had a problem with them uprooting my live plants.

i find oscars to be like pets when they are in their own tank.
but if their in like a community setting they get picked on a lot
unless you have a really aggressive oscar.
i wanna get my oscar it's own tank right now caues she's my biggest fish
but she gets picked on by my more aggressive fish a lot.

Both are cool fish, but I'd go with oscars because their so smart and interactive like little puppies. Mine won't take pellets from anyone but me.
