Oscar wont eat

Feeding goldfish is VERY bad. High risk of parasite transfer, no nutritional value. Goldfish also have high concentration of thiaminase, which blocks the cichlids ability to take in and process vitamin B. Can lead to neurological damage over time. A quality pellet should be an Oscars staple, fd krill, earthworms, mealworms, some spirulina based foods as treats. I also see some cratering on Oscars head, onset of hith. Do large frequent water changes. You have a nice big tank for the 2 cichlids, with quality care and the possibility of prolonged compatibility, you should have an enjoyable setup. A healthy Oscar wont starve itself, at the size of yours it can likely go 2 months without eating. Offer quality food, it will eat it eventually.

Ya I dont eant to feed live fish but before I posted i was getting desperate that he was not eating. He showed no interest in the pellets but once this batch of goldfish are gone Ill put him on pellets. Iv never had a fish this large so far so I was not comfortable with him going 10+ days with no food.

I would've done rosey reds but I worry a lot about my babies. They will eat the smaller ones more readily than the big ones.

I hope he has eaten, and the missing fish are his meals. Massivore and aquadyne had always pleased any Oscar I have owned.

You really should of quarantined the Oscar before adding him to the tank since it has that fungus on his face.

Seems typical with any cichlid.

I had firemouth/convict juvies that didn't eat for 3 weeks. I also had a 5" JD that went 2 weeks before eating. Just recently I had a baby flowerhorn that only wanted bloodworms, and took 11 days of fasting to start accepting pellets.

I'd keep feeding, but getting those spots on his face under control should be the top priority.

The fish looks like it might have Hexamita aka Hole-in-the-head. The white pimples are a clasic symptom combined with the loss of appatite, however there is alway the posability it could be saprolignia but I would bet on and treat for Hex. The fish should have been Qt'ed before it was placed in the main tank.
