Again please someone explain any reason to QT a fish going into an EMPTY tank?? I would never qt any fish when putting it into a tank by itself. The jack was put in after. I used to QT fish but it was a pain and honestly never did me any good and dont plan to run a QT tank now for future additions and fail to see how a qt of this oscar would have helped anything

There is no reason to QT a fish going into an empty tank unless the tank is going to be used as the main display or community tank in the near future. A fish should be QT'ed for about three weeks before it is introduced into a community or other fish are added wichever the case may be. In this instance the Jack is now at risk of cross contamination. It is also less expensave to treat a fish in a smaller QT/Hospital tank than in a larger community environment. In addition to the afore mentioned some meds are very hard nitrifying bacteria and a seperate tank will prevent the main community tank from going through a cycling period unnecessarly if you find it is necessary to use them. These are just a couple of reasons why you should QT newly acuired fish even in an empty tank.
