My fried is trying to ger rid of his 6 inch oscar and I am thinking about taking it from him But i would need a new tank so I am looking on craigslist hand here is my possible set up:

75 gallon tank- $85
48" light strip- $60
2 Aquaclear 500 Filters- $50
2 250 watt Heaters- $8

Total- $203

To me this sounds like a pretty decent deal but I don't have as much experience with this stuff as most of you guys wo what do you guys think about this? My other question is would an oscar be okay in this tank or not? Thanks alot guys.

Where in the world did you get 2 250 watt heaters for $8? Do tell. I just paid $13 for 1 50w for my daughters 10 gal yesterday.

I found it from a guy who lives near me whos closing his fishstore and selling a bunch of things. And I have alot of threads cause im pretty inexperienced and ask alot of questions lol

Nothing wrong with being inexperienced and asking questions.

Don't let anyone tell you different. You should be asking questions instead of guessing and trial and error

Well, "come on guy", why would you tell someone who has only one tank to stock their tank with that then? I mean, seriously...You just straight up told this guy that he can do an oscar with 2 JD's, saying you are doing it now. You were implying that he can do it for life, which is not true. What gives man?

OP: DO NOT PUT JACK DEMPSEY'S IN THE TANK.

BRAVO :clap - this represents a MAJOR problem on this forum. Just because someone once did something for a while doesn't mean that it SHOULD be done.

When someone asks a question like this, I think it should be assumed that the poster means "for life and in good health" unless very specifically indicated otherwise.

Anything CAN be done - we can't stop you - that doesn't mean we should encourage others to do the same.

I'm pretty sure this quote is for a used set-up, but I was very surprised when I upgraded mine that the larger, higher-wattage heaters literally only cost a few nickels more than the smaller, lower-wattage ones.

Yes, it would be ok (makes me happy to say that!)

Not a bad deal, is the $50 for two filters or is it $50 each. I wouldn't expect to pay more than $1/gal for a used tank, but I wouldn't let $10 stop me, either.
i keep seeing this $1 a gal thing a 75 gal here used would sale for $400, grab that deal, you probably cant beat it anywhere unless free

wow thats expensive as hell man. Did you try craigslist? Well anyway now I can see that Jack Dempseys in the tank are not gonna work so Ill put in the oscar then see how it works out then Ill ask about some other possibilites

Im Impressed

The only question or comment I have is:

Is the tank going to be cycled? Do you know how to cycle? If you dont PM me.

ture man, sorry bout that. what worked for me might not work with XXFLEAXX. and i was not implying that a 55 or a 75gal tank could be used for life for these fishes, if i did...sorry.
