Oscar...

A solo Oscar in a 75 would be a great wet pet. They are a ton of fun and very interactive.

As far as where to buy one, I'd say anywhere is fine, as long as you find one that is healthy and looks how you want it to. I bought all 3 of my O's at petsmart and they are all happy and healthy.

As far as 2 in a 125, I'd say that you'd be fine with that, maybe even add a few dithers.

When it comes to adding multiple to the 75 to grow them out and pick a favorite, that's up to you. I don't think I would do this myself, because if I had multiple Oscars I'd probably end up buying more tanks to make space for them (what I have now). Also, you'll probably have to end up just giving them away as most lfs don't buy back O's, they are just way to cheap as juveniles for them to worry about buying an adult from a customer.

Good luck with the tank and the new O. Keep us updated.

I just started a 90g Oscar tank and while they are all juveniles now I have a red snook, 2 ebjd, red headed severum, red Texas, and a delhezi bichir with my Oscar. Just waiting to see who colors up the best to decide who I want to keep

I share the same view as PDRed302.

IMO, one Oscar in a 75 gallon tank is perfect for life. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting two or more in it because a 75 gallon is only 4 foot long. While Oscars are generally not aggressive, the cramped space might cause aggression problems because they'll feel that their territories are being invaded by their tank mates.

That's just my two cents though. It's your call. Either way, I'm sure you'll love your O once you get it. They are definitely very personable and fun to take care of, especially when they have mood swings. Good luck! :)

Okay I've made my decision..I'm gonna go with 1 oscar...i. know he/she will be happy by itself...now do I do sand or gravel, and just add a driftwood with nosharp points and that's it for decor? Ty all

Gravel or sand and decors is a matter of personal preference with Oscars. They are open swimmers so as long as they have enough swimming space, they'll be happy with either a bare bottom tank or a decorated one.

I personally like sand because it looks more natural and sinking food tend to stay on top so the fish can find it easier. I also use driftwood because it helps create a more natural setting in the tank and my Oscar loves swimming in and around the branches in it. Just make sure to boil/scrub the wood first before putting it in, that would help lessen the tannins leaching out on your water.

Hope you keep us updated with pics once you get things setup! :)

You made the right call. This Oscar was solo in a 75. They can get this big. Two would barely fit. Even if they got along, you'd be doing two mega water changes a week.

An Oscar & a Convict, however, has a pretty good chance of working.

I'm sure you will enjoy him. They are like puppies with fins. The more you interact with him, The more he will want to interact with you.
I started with 6 in a 150gl, As they grew, I'm down to 4. I traded 2 at my friends store. And will probably trade in 2 more. It just hard to part with them.

Get you a medium pleco or something for the bottom, If you are going to pellet feed. They are messy eaters.

Spike;)
