oscars and red devil?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just did a water change....he dig a big pit behind the driftwood and i vacuum all the gravel and and put the gravel back filling his pit....is this okay? or not? i just figured he might get board and dig a new pit....

I used to always fill in the pits that my Mana used to create in the community tank. Kept them busy re digging it to annoy any of the other fish.

i brought the oscar's back to the fish store as donation..but before i did i put them back in the red devil tank for a minute...wow the tables have turned!!! ... this guy is crazy taking on two @ a time..trying to go straight for the eye balls ....even attacking the vacuum gravel when doing water changes now..nothing like my piranha's.....and it turns out he is a she...small eggs all over the dirftwood and on the slate.....was thinking maybe i should get a male? but i decided not i heard they are picky mates + i wont know what to do with all the babies...

RDs can be real bullies! You're seeing it first hand now. I wouldn't keep a pair in a 75. It may work for a short time while they are small but these fish grow very fast and you'd be looking for a new tank fairly quickly. Trying adding a male once you get a larger tank if you choose to breed her. Enjoy your RD. They are fun fish to watch and keep.

You have to have a large tank for cichlids to live peacefully it is one thing when they are small but when a cichlid gets to breeding size all hell will break out then you end up with 1 fish in a tank. Pairs are sometimes hard to keep without the larger of the 2 killing its mate. Anything under 100 gallons is a tank for 1 agressive cichlid.
