I got away from them for awhile, but had to come back. I went with some less common cichlids (RT, FH, Cuban, etc...) for awhile but was tired of the territoriality that made it so the fish wouldn't swim around much because they either feared getting in another fish's territory, or they feared losing theirs. I ended up with beautiful fish that didn't move much. Oscars make a great centerpiece to a peaceful tank that has great movement. My 3 oscars swim all over my 210 and I couldn't be happier with them. At the end of the day, they are just very common and that turns people off. But then again, they are common for a reason aren't they?

They are definitley not boring, thats for sure, they are just so run of the mill. I have some vieja synspilum that are becoming very "oscarish".

well ive found out as mine have grown up they tend to lose the inquisitveness and start to be terratorial, yes mine do gaurd the little patch above the slate rock, but youve got to love there laid back way to life,,,,guess its the spanish way<manyana>
you will prob find there sat in there tank and thinking "look at that weirdo out there looking in at us, stay perfectly still boys" then you leave the room and WAHAY SWIM SWIM SWIM,,,,My oscar gandulf loves playing with her golfball,,

Very smart fish, great for getting beginers into chiclids. Worked on me at least, and several of my friends as well. They are really cute when small. My first one went into a 10 gal and of course the Kmart I got mine at told me it was fine in a 10 gal. That lasted about4 months, then he was a tank buster (in the 10). That fish is the reason I bought bigger and bigger tanks as money permitted until I ended up with my first 75 Gallon. I no longer keep Oscars but I would take one if it would prevent it from getting put down. They are smart and interactive fish.

i hate oscars. they produce twice as much poop as a blue whale. i think the only nice lookin oscar imo is the red tiger oscar even though it is a poop machine i may still pick one up.
