Oscars Better To Get As A Adult Or A Baby

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As pretty much everyone has already said, growing them out is always a joy.

You'll end up with an adult size O in less than a year. Babies shouldn't be difficult to feed at all.

Thanks everyone i will get a baby then anyway i can get it this saturday i am so annoyed i went yesterday tested my water my LFS tested thing it was all prefect then they test ammonia it is stuck between neutral and bad lol so saturday i get him i am so excited:grinno:.
Get your own test kit, much easier, sometimes by the time you get your water to your LFS the results can be kind of skewed a bit. And if you are anal like me about your water quality, you can use your test kit anytime.....:)

and start with the babies, but alot can be said for rescuing adults too

I would have to agree that their are thousands of grown oscars looking for a home... and since you want one badly i would say that you would enjoy having a monster right away..if you decide on a big full grown oscar make sure it has no blemishes on it ...especially no signs of{ HITH holes in the head or scars that indicated he had it} growing out a baby is of course fun too... but there are some beautiful older oscars out there and their only fault in life was getting too big for someones tank... he would be so thank ful!!

I agree whole heartedly

There is something to be said for adopting an unwanted fish, it's a good thing to do. - Its just I wouldn't want to be paying top dollars for the privelage.

Free to good home or paying the pet shop a small amount for their time and effort is fine, but if you are paying top $$, go for the young one ;)

Cheers

I see large trade in Oscars all the time at the LFS, some of the poor things even have HITH. But the store wants between $30-$40 for them. Unfortunately it is pure greed on their part, which could hold many people back from adopting these homeless fish.
