First offf I wanted to Sa awesome pics everyone Oscars have always been one of my favorite cichlids!
But I did also want to bring up I am sure size of a fsih tank that oscars are held plays a role with HITH but... I do not think that it is the only cause because even johnptc's oscars have gotten HITH and they are in a 10,000 gallon tank .
I have kept Oscars off and on for 15 years now the biggest oscar i have kept was 14" right now I have 2 currently a female albino tiger she was 1 inch wen I got her she is now pushing 8 inches and she is 7 months old I bought a Black tiger oscar ( that turned out to be male) at the same time out of a different tank and he is 8.5- 9 inchs right now, they laid eggs quite a few times but none has has lived.
When I bought them at 1 inch I had them in a 29 gallon grow out tank till they hit the 4 inch mark and then moved them into a 250 gallon preformed pond that they love , they are in there with a single pleco, I feed them hikari gold, shrimp, I also breed my own guppies for them as well, and I also feen them tetra cichlid sticks( they really LOVE them , tehy will both let me hand feed them as long as I am holding the tetra cichlid sticks or shrimp lol) .
On a sad note upon checking them out this morning I noticed the male( black tiger) has 2 small oval shaped indentions apeared on his lower back fin I am hoping it is not HITH ... I can't post pictures I do not have the right usb cord to connect my camera to my pc...
They are in a 250 gallon I do 2 weekley 50% water changes, the temp is at 80 degrees they have 4 fx5's and a power head and I also have two 5" inch round bubble stones for even more air , I feed 2 times a day morning and night and I do not leave excess food in their pond ... I really can't see where I have done anything wrong ....
I am sorry for the little derail I just wanted to post in this thread for the best (under rated by most.... because they are so common I beleave is why.) cichlid I have ever owned .
