Oscars in 125?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would just put in 2 oscars. That way you have some room left over for some other kind of cichlid or maybe a couple of plecos. 55gallon minimum for one oscar, 75gallon min. for two oscars. They do get pretty big and require their own "buffer zone" otherwise chanses are they will have quite the agression:nilly: , unless they pair up. So just to be safe 2 oscars.

Yeah maybe two would be better for me, I dont want any agression in my tank :nilly:

If you are getting them as younger oscars, I'd say get 6-8 to start with. In about 6 months or so, you should see a couple of them pair off. Sell back all but the 2 that paired off. Then you might just have baby oscars, and far less agression.

i keep 5 in my 125 and they are all happy and healthy. i think dimensions could also play a part in it. a tall tank will have less lateral space for the fish to move so wouldnt be able to hold as many as a 125 long

Come on now, 5 adult Oscars in a 125 is insane! A HUGE bio load. Please tell me they are not adults, and you're not insane!

Hmm, I think I'll do 4. I have 2 pairs. I do daily 50% water changes, so I can overstock my tanks. I have 2 in my 80 gal, so I think 4 should be good, if I do daily water changes like I do?
