Good Advice!

You could have a quarter sized one for about 3 months max... Eventually it will need a 75 alone though. Try some firemouths maybe.. Or you could probably get away with two electric yellow labi's

wow fire mouths look sick - im probably gonna go with a couple o them- whats the max i can put in ?

BTW this tank is gonna have a bunch of plants i got a 2 x 24 watt light and a 350 gph penguin filter - is that enough to make a jungle?

id say get a pair of firemouths

Yeah ... That should be adequate. Id see if you could get a breeding pair they are still fairly cheap. I dont know how well they do with plants though. Someone else might be able to shed light on that.

A pair of Firemouthes will do fine in a 30 gal... They may pick at plants a bit but not as bad as most larger Cichlids...

They are hard to sex, especially when younger, so picking out a male and a female may not be a simple task

If you don't decide to go with the FM, do consider what one person above suggested which is a convict.

Lovely fish with plenty of personality... you can tell a female through the red/orange belly.
