Oscars...Questions..

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for your input Dave, i have been watching them closely and will be very interested to see how their relationships and characters develop over time...
I have 2 albino (1 tiger, 1 red) and
4 black (1 long fin, 1 tiger & 2 reds) and they have already split into albinos together and the black strains always together..
Wow that’s interesting. What is their current size?

I am looking forward to seeing how your Oscars grow out, not sure i agree with 5 but the water volume is certainly there, but bio load going to call for large water changes often.

I am expecting i will have to remove at least a few as they grow/become more agressive. In the future will be definitely be looking into getting bigger sump upgrade as well as potential getting another fx6 as well...
Currently doing 60% WC a week, 80% once a month. Will definitely be keeping a closer eye on water conditions when the get a bit bigger to ensure filtration and WC are keeping water conditions good.

sounds like you have it in hand, bio filtration to handle the ammonia/nitrite and water changes to handle the nitrate creep. I would throw a few AC110 filters on the back to handle mech filtration taking allot of the particulates filtration from your canisters and sumps filters, they allot easier to clean while water changing than doing sumps/canisters. And Oscars being the messy gluten's they are getting it out before it hits the harder to clean filters is a win.

Will definitely look into it, i also run internal canister filter intermittent for flow and to pick up debree. Easy to clean. As well as filter sock in sump to catch most excess poo without it going thru whole sump. All trial and error..
