Some people feed their fish bananas, apples, mangoes and watermelons. Can't see why they would not be safe although it is acidic ones such as oranges that are often avoided.

The only thing I worry about with fruit though is the mess that it might make. He's already a little pig as it is :nilly: Bananas sound like they might be a safe bet. Cheap too.

i had the same problem with my oscar. Now his back to shape. All i did was mixed his diet a bit. I switch my pellet to hikari carnivore. I also feed him shrimps, crickets, and worms. Hopefully yours turns OK.

Shrimps? Like ghost shrimp? When I hear shrimp I think like what you and I would eat. I give him shrimp pellets. Isn't that pretty much the same?

I can't do crickets and worms. I can't touch them. Crickets are too much like cochroaches  Shrimps are pretty much cochroaches of the sea too...

Yes market shrimp like we eat. Mine love it. But don't go crazy with it. Shrimp have the same emzime in them that causes vitmain deficenty that goldfish do. If your O's are full grow cut off the tail and leave the shell. If not unshell and cut to bite size. There is debate over raw or cooked but wild O's only eat uncooked food so I say give it raw.

Hey i was just reading through this and i just got a tank with two little Tiger Oscars and im just feeding them Hikari Cichlid Gold right now. Should i feed them some of the stuff you guys talk about like peas and maybe some variety in pellets to avoid HITH even starting and to just keep them healthy period?

Sounds like it might be a good idea.

yes it would be a very good idea. Variety is the best way to go. if they are small then try to mince or break the food into smaller parts. earthworms are really good for them, so maybe cut them small and just feed a few pieces.
