Agreed on the pushing it, but 75Gal are more readily available (where im from at least) and is what I have always heard as being rule of thumb. My pair of Os are housed in a 125gal and couldn't be happier. If it was me, for a full grown single O I would say 75Gal and for 2 full grown (with a few friends) a 125Gal.muffywrx;5027022; said:

Os are sold too often to people thinking that they will be forever fine in there 30Gal tank, therefore when people see them getting huge and taking out the mollies and neon tetras they decided to put in with it. So anyways back on track, the people get overwhelmed and need somewhere to pass off the full size oscars they no longer want or that they can no longer take care of them.Good luck with your choice. If I was closer I would take them off your hands, but unfortunately I am not. Maybe try and find them a home on here, you are most likely going to get a better home for them from someone here then an lfs that will sell it to someone with a tank too small again. IMO it would be best to get rid of them together so they can stay together. Once again Good LucK!
Guy at the LFS said they were quite small and should be 2-3X their size. But he did like their coloration.

Aww the poor Oscars. I have a 50g tank *not* with an Oscar in it and can say categorically that a 55g is far too small for even one O, let alone two. My Oscar would look ridiculous in there.
My O is about 9 1/2" at around a year old, so your guys are definitely stunted, but that's not surprising, bless them.
O's should normally eat happily off the surface. Mine much prefers it. His favourite food is Doromin - try some of that? He is a bit too lazy to go around picking, but if he has to, he will.
I hope you can rehome these O's soon. They need at least a 75g for a single O and pref. at least a 125g for a pair really with no tank mates.

for 2 o's I'd say a minimum of 8 sqft footprint. I think too many get wayyy too stuck on gallons and don't even realize that a 90 has zero extra swim space than a 75 gallon. That extra height may look pretty but it doesn't do your O's any favors.
so a 120 wide (8sqft) or standard 125g (9sqft) would be optimal for 2 O's. If you're planning on much more than that a 180g (12sqft) would be preferable.
I'm glad you wanted to rescue them but if you're not going to be able to provide a 120wide at least you need to find them a more suitable home. You can always get O's and raise them up yourself later when you have a proper setup for them.

I was sad to get rid of them but I couldn't provide em with the home they needed. I'm just happy I got em out of those terrible conditions and got 2 free 55 gallon set ups out of it. One had the o's and the other a striped raphel catfish thats oh about 6" pretty sure hes fine in the 55.Right?

Some rush to that assumption just because a fish isn't the max 12 or 16 inches, whatever it might be. In truth, the amount of waste in the tank likely had more to do with their limited size than the dimensions of the tank itself. Having said that, it can be dangerous to go overboard with cleaning because you don't want to lose the beneficial bacteria. Just a few quick thoughts after reading this. Good job with finding them a new home, just hope they didn't end up in an even smaller tank.
