Onion - Thus far your two questions are completely different from the original posters question. Again, please start your own thread. Thanks!:)

lol, my apologies to stingray man

Well my filter is just about the same as it was going to be for the 4*8 it is a 20 gal rubbermaid tub put inside a 55 gal tub with scrubbies in the 20 and a mag 7 as the pump (had a ton of problems but fixxed it now

The extra 20 gallons or so will make up some more water but I would still be surprised to see if your total volume is over 130gallons. Saying that, if you maintain superb water via constant water changes you will be ok.

Im starting to like the gar idea as it is a fish that wouldnt be too bad to view from above. Im concerned about the retic being with such large and fast growing fish like an aro. Why not just get a trio of retics? They would have PLENTY of room and it would be actually less maintance as their bio load for a while would be lower then a large aros.

Well i dont like how slow they grow
and i put the pond right next to the sump pump so i can just do them right down there

the trio of retics would be your best bet 1 male 2 females....

i no it would be but i just dont like retics i hate how they grow like a inch a year (i no its not that slow but it seems like it)
What about a flower?

I wouldnt do a flower unless you have alot of experience under your belt. I sensitive ray like retics but alot $$$.

I think retics grow faster then 1" a year though.
