Out of these what would you go for?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FX5. Eheims are the mercedes of filters, with all their luxury features and fancy ad-ons. The FX5 on the other hand, is the Chevy Diesel. Raw power built to run forever. If you want the best filter on the market get the FX5.

You won't be disappointed with either eheim or fx5, but I think the fx5 is a better deal for the money. Just don't go Rena, I hate them.

rena is the best canister I have come across so far. Have not tried Fx5, so I can't say much about them really, but I love my xp3. Easy to run and clean.
but if you can pull it off, I would say go for a sump haha

not on the list I know, but what more could you ask for than a sump

Wow thanks so much guys, this is just the input I need. I am still a little undecided currently, but have found a really really good deal on the FX5. I dont think it will fit in the cabinet but it can easily go down the side (as long as it functions we are good!!!). Special thanks to the person that found the fx5 on Ebay that is an amazing deal. Im going to sit on it for one more night just to make sure of my decision

How about a little personal review from me! Hahaha I have 2 fx5's, 2 xp4's and 1 xp3

Fx5- I have 2 on my lightly stocked 180.
-----Pros- Holds plenty of media, has 607gph flowrate full of media (according to manual)
-----Cons- Heavy and intake and output hoses have to be sawed with a hacksaw

Xp4- I have 2 on my heavily stocked 150
-----Pros-Also holds tons of media, not sure about gph flowrate when full, both do a fine job on tank as long as I do regular w/c.
-----Cons- As easy as it is to fill and prime the canister, it at the same time can be a huge pain in the butt if the littlest thing is out of order, seems to be a lot cheaper made than the fluvals

Xp3-1 on my 55g. Basically the same as the xp4's just with 100 gph less flowrate and 1 less basket.

What do I think between the 2? Rena's can be tricky to figure out, but set up right do just a fine job for any tank I've had them on. The Fx5's are just beasts, but an Fx5 on a 100g ( I assume its the 60x18 footprint?) would be more than needed filtration.

What do I think you shuold do? Have your xp3 set up for bio (full of rings, stars and one basket with a couple of the black mechanical pads) and buy ann ac110 for polishing.

I like Rena's XP1-XP3 (Not XP4s) given the right circumstances. But for all around filtration, they don't fit in the same category as FX5s.

So if you're picking between the two, I would say go for the FX5.
