Over the course of the past (5) months I have been offering my (3) P. Motoros an exclusive diet of sinking pellets manufactured by "Nelson and Sons, Inc" www.silvercup.com
I offer the STEAM PELLETED TROUT FEED (SINKING)

PROTEIN Guaranteed/Typical FAT Guaranteed/Typical
40 / 42% 10 / 12 %

FIBER Guaranteed/Typical ASH Guaranteed/Typical
3 / 1 % 12 / 9 % MOISTURE Guaranteed/Typical
Less than 10 %

PELLET SIZES
3/32 in. (2.4 mm)
1/8 in. (2.4 mm) Digestible energy 3,550 kcal/kg
5/32 in. (4.0 mm) Vit. A, not less than 8,000 IU/kg
3/16 in. (4.8 mm) Vit. D, not less than 450 IU/kg
1/4 in. (6.4 mm) Vit. E, not less than 200 IU/kg

The mix that actually is fed to my rays contains a double batch of vitamins and minerals plus an additive called Xanthion (sp?)(term?) Essentially it is pulverized crayfish.

Since feeding this pellet I have noticed remarkable mass and length gains especially in the two youngest rays. I have noticed shed spines that were once flimsy and malformed are now sleek, strongly serrated and up to an eighth inch thick. The colors of the rays are almost vibrant with deeper hues to the spots and disk in general.

My friend directs a aquaculture research facility here in Northern Wisconsin. He offers this food to his Sturgeon, Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout and Yellow Perch.

Why did I offer all this info? For one, I said I would a long time ago. Second, I thought folks would like to know that there is more in the way of food out there beyond what you find in a local fish store.
Enjoy this for what it is worth.
Respectfully,
FireMedic. (the cut and paste did not turn out so well for the first part)

Isn't it a little to much? How many times do you feed?

I also use this kind food (aquaculture food) for a long time. It's not expensive :D and with all the things fish need.

But i use one with less protein and fat.

Thanks for sharing! Did you have to train them to eat it? Sneak it in their food? Or did they take it readily?

interested.... trying to find a hard time figuring out cost on thier website tho...

:iagree: I might just end up calling them..

Can I have the ingredients list please? You might have it in the link posted, but I am at school and I have to run in a bit. Just the way it is on the package please.

Thank you.

You shouldn't be worried about the high protein and fat content. Rays are known for their Speedy-Gonzalez-like-metabolism and the worst that can happen is you get a nice, healthy, fat ray ...:headbang2

The ingredients are listed on their website, if not you can contact them for further information.

My rays took to the pellets readily after a two week forced fast. The were ornery through it all but did just fine. The initial feedings were the size of a shot glass once a day for one week. Currently I feed approximately half a cup twice daily. Sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less. As with all food, feed only what they will eat within a 10-12 minutes.

I get 40lbs at a time and vacuum seal it in one pound portions then freeze it.

Respectfully,
FireMedic.

What size are your rays and the size of pellets you feed?
