Outstanding Alternative to Massivore

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i like the sound of it .

hikari carnivore or massivore is not designed for rays anyway but is a general feed for most types of carnivorus fishes . if the hikari were specificaly designed as ray food then fair enough but as it stands its just a general all round pellet not aimed at anything other than being a replacment for live food . so i would be happy to try thes pellets and possibly different types ( as long as i didnt think my fish were at risk obviously ) .

trout are meat eating fishes mostly i think so id be happy to give them a try . ill have to have a look round the uk to see if there is something similar.

I would be interested to know how the rays guts handle this. Black rays especially. I used to feed my rays NLS and it was horrible for them. Massivore is the only commercially produced pellet that my rays guts do not react to.

Here in Northern Wisconsin I take full advantage of seasonal foods such as nightcrawlers and Smelt (Great Lakes invasive that spawns very early spring).
I do occasionally offer raw market shrimp.

With that said I have noticed no ill effects with regards to the digestive systems. Feces is stable, compact and dark (same color as feed) No strings, no goo.
I approximate each rays intake +/- a tablespoon daily. Any more and it goes to waste.
I do run Matrix Carbon in a FX5 attached to my system (for poops and chuckles) It does limit/eliminate staining and smell but those really aren't a factor anyway as long as I am mindful of the feedings.

PS: I am very interested in obtaining tiger or leo pups in the near future. Anybody can PM me.;)

How long have you been using this feed firemedic? Also, were your rays on pellet food prior to this feed?...Or was this their first pelleted food?

I started all my rays on frozen krill and frozen, raw market shrimp. The krill were large "flat-packs" and the market shrimp are farm raised, de-veined, beheaded, shell on, raw. I defrost the shrimp and remove the shell.

I starved the rays for +/- 10-14 days then offered pellets basted in shrimp and krill for two days or so. Then straight pellets.

I do supplement there diets from time to time. Smelt will be running soon so I will be stocking up on them, usually 80-100lbs. That will last me 8 months or better.

Even though I have supplemental foods available, I am stiking with the pellets as primary.
Respectfully,
FireMedic.

I am also feeding the pellets to a large electric catfish. he is fat and sassy. Only eats every other day like clockwork. I keep him on the same diet as the rays. He is one happy camper.
