Does your supplier produce a brood stock feed? I would have though of all varieties this would be best. It is not aimed at pushing stock on but only to maintain. Plenty min's & vit's to aid in egg production. The down side is this is normally only available in a pre expanded floating feed although intermediate pellets can be available.

It is only my view but I would not personally feed trout pellets of that high a fat/protein % within a closed system.
We feed our site a pellet that I'm sure is very similar Biomar Aqualife 23 to be exact and the oil content is very high. On a warm day small pools of oil can form in the bottom of the feed bins.

There is however a company over here that has begun to produce a pellet the is earth worm based topped up with soya protein that could be of use. I'm sure it's organic also.

If any1 is interested I can dig out all the feed growth conversions and such for our feed. Its quite shocking when you see the the growth pottential of trout feed. Long term health has to suffer. You have to take into account diploid trout will only stay on site 3 years max and triploid up to 5. Long term health is not such an issue with fish of such a short life cycle.

The feeds I have experience with and the feed being talked about could well be very differant but as a whole trout feed is just trout feed. Fish meal (sand eels mainly), fish oil, various bulkers and min's and vit's put on top.

I have endless supplys of the stuff and choose not to feed it. Only my view remember.

For any1 in the UK thats interested it works out at around £25 for 25kg. Or a bit cheaper when your buying it 20 tonne at a time :)

I have not had a problem with any oils accumulating in the container. The particular feed that I have is also the sole food for sturgeon in a recirculating aquaculture system nearby.
This feed differs from the Nelson standard in that it has double vitamins and minerals plus the crayfish slurry.

It was batched for the sturgeon with regards to their long lived tendencies. As are rays. -FM

Curious - are you still feeding your rays this food FireMedic?

How has it been working out?

Plum, to answer your question, Yes.

I am still feeding them this pellet mixture without any side effects noted. The females are especially ravenous during their pregnancies and consume close to 2.75 tablespoons/ray/day. They are vibrant and have grown considerably. I do still supplement their diets with market shrimp (raw) and nightcrawlers (after a good rain). These supplements are the exception and infrequent. I will post some photos ASAP.

One note:
The latest spine shed by my largest ray was EXCEPTIONAL compared to her previous shed. The girth, length, width and stiffness of the latest shed is astonishing. The previous spine was more like a toothpick, the latest is more like a framing nail. :)

Respectfully,
FireMedic.

That is awesome T. Can't wait to see the photos! The big boy got right to work then huh?
