Outstanding Alternative to Massivore

PRICING!!!!!

Got it. I just ordered 50lbs and the bill came out to be $72.85.

Now before you get to excited, it was $37 for the food ($0.741/lb) and $35.85 for freight.

Make certain you order the extruded pellets NOT THE STEAM PELLETED. The extruded maintains its pellet form longer in the water = less mess and easily consumed by the rays. The steam pellet breaks apart way to quickly.

Officially it is rcalled Extruder Pelleted Trout Pellet, 6mm -or- 1/8 inch. Call and talk to Chad or Chris, they are outstanding. Tell them you heard about them on this forum, they will be delighted.

I should have specified again. The specific blend that I am feeding to my Rays was developed for Sturgeon in a recirculating aquaculture setting. It was not blended with the intent to speed up Sturgeon development, it was simply developed to mimic their natural diets. It can be fed to trout but he developed his own trout blend as well. Long story short, I am not power feeding the rays. I am providing outstanding nutrition.

Let me preface the following comment by stating that Silvercup does indeed make some high quality commercial food, this is in no way a slam against the Nelson brothers or Silvercup. Having said that, the formula that you are referring to is nothing more than a farm feed, developed specifically for trout raised on commercial farms, for human consumption, not sturgeon, and certainly not rays. Can it be fed to species besides trout, absolutely, but with a protein content of 40/42%, and a crude fat content of 10/12%, I would highly recommend that one pays special attention to the amount of food that each & every adult ray is consuming on a daily basis.

While excess amino acids (protein) is typically excreted as waste, any excess fat will be stored by your rays which does have the potential in causing health problems, as well as a decreased lifespan. I'm quite certain that Chris Nelson won't argue that fact with me.
As previously mentioned fat rays do not equal healthy rays. Any excess protein that may be excreted will also cause an extra load within a closed system.

Just something to keep in mind when feeding trout chow to aquarium specimens.

Absolutely correct, fat rays do not equal healthy rays. Diversity of food equals healthy rays. I feed sparingly but offer it as a base of food. I vary there diet seasonally and as financing allows. Thank you for your thoughts. Much appreciated.

Update:

I have moved the bulk of my rays onto the gel diet excusively. I still enhance and enrich their diets with the occasional handful of nightcrawlers or minced Tilapia but the core of their nutrition is the gel diet. I have moved away from the steam pelleted food. It was to costly and the shelf life didn't impress me when copared to the gel diet.
The gel diet is truly is the easiest and most reliable food I have dealt with. -FM

Sorry for any confusion in this thread.... :)
