Which of the Mazuri Gels do you use? Also, how does it hold up in the water? Do the rays push a lot of it through their spiracles?

It holds up very well in water, just be mindful not to overfeed. As for the amount pushed through the spiracles, not an issue. -FM

Ok, Just wasn't sure about a gel food. The ones I have made always seem to be a mess with my fish.

One more question though, which formula do you use?

Just a note:
Mazuri is a "gelatin based" food, not actually gel. The base binding material for this food is gelatin, "jello".

I have been utilizing the 5C8X serial Mazuri Shark and Ray diet. Mazuri also offers an alternative "obese" diet for fatties. Get the 5C8X gel diet.

Yeah, I figured it would be a powder of some sort.

Thanks for the info.

I have had some discussions on a different forum about the Mazuri product.
"Does anyone know if this will work for Potomotrygon, seems it is for saltwater rays." (paraphrasing)

I had a lengthy discussion with the nutritionist from Mazuri when I was first considering this diet for my rays. I informed her that I would be feeding to Motoro, Henlei, Schroeder. She was familiar with these species and assured me that the diet would provide everything essential to Potomotrygon. I mentioned that I was breeding rays and the females would need excellent nutrition, she said I couldn't do any better. (of course) Long story short, I have complete faith and confidence in this product. I do enhance/enrich my rays diets by adding chunks of shrimp, tilapia and nightcrawlers form time to time just to keep away the boredom. -FM

One additional item to consider:
Miles has/had some threads with links to dietary studies done on a few different Potomotrygon. I have done this already which is why I am sold on Mazuri but I recommend that anyone interested look for the dietary studies and compare the findings with the nutrient tables for the 5C8X Mazuri shark/ray diet. Perfect match in my opinion. -FM

I would like to shed some light on the topic of flexibility in foods. I have found it very easy to transition rays onto Mazuri due to the fact that you can customize each batch however you wish.

For example, I have a few Henlei that refused anything and everything but live, whole nightcrawlers. For a little while this was amusing and even fun but that wore out. I was able to incorporate crawlers into a few light batches of Mazuri and peaked the interest of the Henlei's. These were wild caught rays mind you and after <2 months in captivity they are now on an exclusive Mazuri diet. I am more then pleased. I even have a male Flower that switched.

I hope this answers some if not all of the private messages I have received lately.

Respectfully submitted,
FireMedic.
