Over discussed question!!!!

If it's been 3-4 months then the biological filtration should be well established. If you're having ammonia and nitrite it's a classic case of being under-filtered. But before jumping to conclusions, is the test kit good? Is it expired? Have you tested tap water to see what readings you get?

test kit is not expired i just got it when i got my tank.... and and water test out for nothing ph is perfect for the catfish to....

water temp stays around lower 70's

Explain....

Tested tap water perfect cant get any better... with my declorinater

Did a 75% water change tested again... still the same readings except nitrates went from 80 to 30ish ppm

Ok and thats meaning??? Only thing i can think of that im doing wrong is that the gatorade bottle with power head on top is really not helping because its pulling in the waste and nasty stuff but blowing the broke down part of it in to the tank letting it up my testing....
True? Or am i thinking to much???

Put on another whisper 60 replaced the whisper 30 used filter bag out of the 30 and a new bag plus a bunch of bio balls in the other side... new so it may take time but i also did another 30% water change...with no change in results

when you all clean gravel do you really get down in the gravel or just the surface because i been pretty agressive when cleaning grave going all the way to the bottom

Are the readings the same for both tanks? What size gravel are you using? What are you using to drive the under gravel filter, pump or air stone? You may not be getting enough flow through the UG filter. Look under the tank if you can and see how much waste has accumulated under the plates.
