it's sad how you been keeping fish for a long time and don't believe in water change and gravel vacuum.

I don't know about other fresh water fish, but for piranha for sure they love new and clean water.

just think about wild amazon tons of gallon coming in and going out, plenty of fresh water from rain. that keep the growing faster.

piranha are messy eater, if you don't know your water change. the water parameter will get mess up.

how do you deal with water parameter, ph, kh, level, nitrate, natrite, etc...?

That sounds pretty **** to me, lazy is what i would call it.
It's been proven that regular water changes (weekly if u can) will help speed up the growth of piranhas.
And for a 2" rhom owner like me... that is very important

the water in a tank is not free flowing like in rivers, it relies on the filter to merely clean the same old water so a fish can inhabit a tank. The fish is stuck in the same place day in day out, they need clean water

fine you guys want to know how its done well i took a power head a large one with enough kick in it like a aqua clear 70 ran a 3/8 line to teh end where the water will be shooting out and in flowed into a canaster filter that u would use with a water cooler full flow filter that removes 99.95% parasitic cysts lead chlorine even bad oders. then it flows from there back into the tank i got a 150 gal and theflow from teh filter takes aprox 48 hrs to do a full cycle. i did a tds test and the water quality is much better then getting water from the tap once a week and stering up teh gravel making a mess. water is cleaner tehn if u would do a regualer change every day.

:nilly: Darn, and here the rest of us dummies are wasting all this money on filters and w/c's, when this guy figured out what all the filter manufacturers combined were unable to do, eliminate w/c's.

I wonder why the filter manufacturers didnt come up with this idea themselves. They have hundreds of engineers at their disposal and couldnt figure out what this guy figured out after only a few hits off his bong.

YOUR FISH MAY LIVE EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE TOO LAZY TO TAKE CARE OF IT! WATER CHANGES ARE VITAL TO THE HEALTH OF YOUR FISH. EVERYTHIG FROM GROWTH RATE, COLOR, LIFESPAN AND OVERALL HEALTH DEPEND ON W/C'S.

Your fish is swimming in 8 years of its own excrement.

Do you have a dog? Do you have 8 years of its urine and feces piled up in your house?

exactly! i have a parrot, if his cage wasnt cleaned out at least every 2 weeks he would contract diseases from all his own sh@t

yah but there is no bactira in teh air or filter to brake down the waste on the floor quiz kid. like i said before you start getting rude and agressive goes to show how good a hobbiest you are. ive done both and MY FISH ARE BETTER OFF. WATER GETS ADDED TO THE TANK ONCE A WEEK ANYWAY. BUT YOU KEEP BUYING ALL THE BULL **** PRODUCS THAT THE RETAILERS TRY AND SELL YOU THAT U DONT NEED. during the dry season piranahs spend there days in teped pools for months at a time they do fine in way worse condistions with no filters all all but you can go there and vaccume the sand for them ill book u a flight.

so now the comparison is 150 gallons and enormous rivers?

Every fish i've ever owned loves the fresh water during wc's.

+1

just cause the fish without water changes doesn't mean they are healthy. The nitrates must be through the roof!

The water you are adding due to evaporation does nothing to freshen the water cause the nitrates that have piled up in your tank dont evaporate with the water.

All the filtering in the world wont remove nitrates, which is what fish waste is broken down to by the benificial bacteria. THE ONLY WAY TO REMOVE NITRATES IS TO DO REGULAR WATER CHANGES!!!!!!!! :screwy:

I dont want to come across as a prick, but you cant just filter out nitrates. Your poor fish are litteraly swimming in a septic tank.
