over filtration is a good thing

Adequate, redundant filtration beats over filtration IMO:)

+1 plus it normally creates too strong a current in the tank

Not if done properly.

Besides, define "adequate". I have an FX5 and a hydro 5 running in my 180 right now... which is just about adequate, if you follow recommendations for the tank size... however, my tank doesn't look nearly as good as it tends to when I'm running the 3000gph w/d along with the FX5. I mean, I agree there is such thing as a wasteful overkill, but you're better off with more than less.

As far as I know some fish love strong currents for those over filtration would be a plus. For other fish that dont love strong currents adaquit filtration would be best. What are others thoughts on this?????????/

When your ammonia and nitrite are consistently 0, then it's adequate.

For me, I have no need for more than 3x turnover with a large wet/dry. A small power head in the bottom keeps the "floaties" from settling, and I've never been able to have a positive ammonia test even in a fairly heavily stocked tank.

This will obviously vary from tank to tank, but as long as the parameters are in check it's acceptable.

Very well put. Biologically you can't overfilter, only enough bacteria will grow that you bioload will allow. Have too much mechanical isn't good either, unless you clean it frequently, trapping particulate waste for long periods of time lessens your water quality.

So its best to change filter medium often??????????
