over filtration is a good thing

The less time the waste is in your tank, the less ammonia>nitrites>nitrates will be produced.

BB does not live in my mechanical filtration media, I don't want it there and have more efficent places for it to colonize.

Personal preference comes into play here, but having detritus trapped in your filter isn't any worse for your water than having it float around the tank. At least if it's in your filter you don't have to look at it.

That's a strong statement... BB lives everywhere.

The point that stupid amounts of bio are a waste - as you can only process as much ammonia as is generated - is a valid one. However when it comes to mechanical filtration, too much is hard to come by - unless you like a bit of murk.

Over filtration wastes energy. The consumption of energy, for no apparent benefit, is needlessly harming the environment.

This may be true, but at the same time you don't want to always follow the rules on the box. Sometimes you need to "over filter" your tanks. But in reality you are just having enough filtration with a little extra.

Again I have to ask you what "no apparent" benefit means? what do you define as "overfiltered?" If ammonia and it's derivatives are zero, and your water is as clear as it can get, and you add more, then OK, you're over filtering. If you're running 5x the manufacturer recommended filter capacity on a tank to achieve a showy crystal clear water, is it REALLY no apparent benefit?

I always took "overfiltered" to mean a tank that had more than the standard rule of thumb's worth of filtering. It is my preference to run a pair of filters, each capable of running the tank alone for an extended period, in case something breaks.

Besides, you need a pretty serious O/F setup to do any measurable harm to the environment, especially if your power is all hydroelectric. Leaving your computer running, using AC, or even eating toasted bread instead of regular bread, or bread instead of straight up grain for that matter is harmful to the environment if you really want to concern yourself with every joule consumed.

Do you honestly think that 500 watts of power consumption is going to harm the enviornment? Think of what your lifestyle is like first.
