Depends on how you plumb the returns. I am building one for my 240, just 8' long.

has anyone tried putting plants on their ohf? i bet it would make one hell of a nitrate absorber

I'm gonna make one with about 3 dozen shoots of lucky bamboo. Might be a while till I get around to it... I've been working 12 hours a day since I set my 150g tank up.

How about this for a OHF?

Hey sorry to bump this but I tried emailing the OP and they either have a full inbox or don't accept pms. But I think it's a great idea worth bumping anyways :P

-How do you connect the powerhead to the rest of the filter?
-Is it noisy? Tank will be in my bedroom and I plan on using a 550gph cap powerhead.

Thanks

Question 1 is rather easy, attach hose to outlet of PH and run to filter. Let you know about noise when I get mine going later this week. My 8'er will be running at 1400 gph.

These OHF's seem quite plausible. I'm sold. My thanks to the OP for sharing his ideas along with everyone else. My thanks also to viking 252200 for the tip on rei-sea. It seems worth investigating.
