Everybody on here has heard pet store managers and pet stiore employees give bad advice just to make a sale :irked:. I over heard a woman talking to the manager about what shark to get for her 29g. He immediately showed her the tank full of 2" baby ID sharks :WHOA:. He proceded to tell her that they are very hardy and would suit her 29g just fine. She bought four of them!!!!
We all know about ID sharks--hell I have one thats about 14". I love him but he's a big fish that's gonna get bigger--doesn't see very well and gets spooked at footsteps when I'm going up to the tank!

It just amazes me what people will do for a sale,

Ya proubly someone new! I know were I live the people that work a petsmart are very honest and have all worked there longer than two years. They would never sell a fish to someone they knew didnt have a big enough tank.

I go to that store about once a month to buy algae tabs and never saw him there before. So you're probably right--a newbie. I'd hate to see a 29g with 4-5 id sharks in it after a year or so :WHOA:!!!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out why you were at petsmart?

Black friday, I was there too. :) And so was Bderick and other mfk'ers. Great 80 cent fish!

I will not even set foot in any of the chain stores. Id sharks don't belong in the hobby imo as well as pacus. They get too big and deserve to be in a large open area for swimming then ony few of us can provide.

Some experiences I've had a Petsmart recently -
1. Buying fish, there was an assitant who had seme knowledge of fish and was very careful not to injur them while netting, took her time and actually seemed to have some interest. She was being helped buy a young guy who was obviously new there, he was nervous and a little clumsy but she made sure he didn't do anything too stupid (he was about to lay an open bag of fish on their cart when she stopped him (just as the the "aaarrgghhh" came out of my mouth). Overall decent experience.
2. Again buying fish, this time I was buying some neons to go in my community, as usual they were in a large tank with many other species, the assistant chasing them all over the tank with the net, jamming fish against the glass, I nearly walked away then but held out a little longer. It was when she had a net full of fish that really did it, she held the net above the tank and then stuck her other hand in the net and started grabbing the fish she didn't want and dropped them back into the tank. That's when I walked, explaining to the manager on the way that I thought she was an idiot and him too for letting her work the fish section alone. Definitely bad experience.
3. A couple of days ago I was buying some Boesmani Rainbows, this time it was one of the experienced assistants, she really was good, chatted about her fish and almost had the fish out of the tank and into the bag without them noticing! While I was there the young guy from #1. (above) came over to her to hand her his keys and radio, he'd failed the training and was fired. So Petsmart does have some 'quality control' of their staff, it's just not good enough all the time. Good experience (not for the guy who got fired).
