Overflow box

Eurobracing……….is gonna make access to the inside of the box pretty tough. Im gonna have to cut out some kind of access hole too…….

anyone know the minimum distance between holes/edge for acrylic? I know glass is around 1.5 hole size from each edge. Does it even matter that much with the top bracing as long as I don't cut out most of it?

Now this is something that is worth considering. Small internal keeps me from notching the tank but I can still have (mostly ) an external and plumb it Bean style. Magnetic overflow cover is pretty cool too. Not cheap though, but super clean.

That's similar to the thin internal weir I mentioned. The magnetic cover would make it easier to access with eurobracing and it definitely looks clean, but with a DIY box u could make it the full width of your tank with no teeth for better skimming (and probably half the cost)

Yeah, true, but I think I'm gonna side mount the drains and returns.

The cut Im going to have to make in the euro bracing to access an internal box is kinda freaking me out...... In addition to the 3 holes I'd have to drill in the same side of the tank.

No room behind this tank. My wife chose the wrong wall lol.

That's why I said the full width instead of length :p I actually think river style is the most efficient type of circulation. C2C provides better surface skimming but that's not as important for FW, and turbulent flow can create dead spots. The main reason I'm side mounting everything is because the previous owner cut the top sheet of acrylic, so one of the openings extends 1.5" away from the right side panel. The left opening is 4.5" from the side, but there's two smaller holes for HOBs that are only an inch from the back edge. So it should be fine if you have to cut the top, but I wouldn't cut mine if it wasn't already like that lol. That magnetic weir might be your best bet

Oops. Pays to read huh? Lol

I'm going to have to cut the 3d background a bit to make room for the 16" as it is. 18" wide tank but the background is around 2"+ so Ill probably be using most of it anyways.

A store bought 1800gph with lids, fittings, bulkheads will probably be around $120-140 so I'm spending around 60-80 more to not cut the top and a magnetic weir, which in my case would be a cool addition.

Decisions, decisions.....

Looks like a nice setup for a reasonable price.

Just took a chance. Spent the better part of last night on RC checking out peoples opinions of the box. Looks like most hobbyists love the design. Its wife approved too, which is a big deal in our house. Lol

Just ordered one from Reef Savvy. Now we wait and see what the wait time looks like.......

Won't be home for about 3 weeks anyways.
