Overflow help

I have a 1.5 inch pipe overflow on both ends of my aquarium. I am running up to 20,000 litres per hour before head loss which is estimated to reduce up to 40% off 20,000. Currently they are just standpipes, and make a hell of a lot of noise. I tried to add on a durso set up, and the tank overflowed.

Does this mean my dursos are too high? How can I quiet this set up and not overflow my tank? Each pipe is almost completely full when running, but I am not sure what to do here.


I have very limited space in my weir boxes, so bigger set ups cannot be run.
 
The only thing I can think of, outside of lowering flowrate or increasing overflow diameter, is to install valves in the drain lines below the tank and cut the stand pipes 1/4 the way up the weirs. If you close the valves slightly, maybe you can find a balance as the weir boxes fill, thus increasing the pressure through the lines.

That is what I ended up installing last night. Letting everything cure before I test
 
Still 2 leaks. So I smothered 1 with an epoxy putty and the other with silicone. They are very tiny so this should take care of it.

However it is much quieter with a ball valve on one of the standpipes. I will likely install a ball valve on the other to tune them to where it isn't pulling air down with them.

So far so good!
 
So you were able to balance that one side without too much water building up in the weir?

I have tinnitus so the constant crashing and gurgling of an aquarium overflow is very distressing. So I hope to be able to balance out the other side and have a nearly silent system
 
That's great! I'm glad it worked, and I'll be storing this in the brain bank for future use!
