OVERFLOWED TANK THREAD!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was doing a water change on my 10g with 6 leopard frog plecos. (w/c every other day 50%) Well I was watching tv and doing the water change with a power head, and I accidently drained the whole tank and my plecos were dry when I found them... :(

They were alive tho. :D

You gotta stop doing your wc's at two in tye morning after that warm glass of milk.:nilly: Fosters & Smith sell the screamer Trust was refering to. Might be cheaper at petsolutions or ebay. Get one please!

With my 35G, the only way I know how to do water changes is by filling up a 2 gallon bucket with a syphon, tipping into garden, and repeat until I've done 50%. Then I go to the sink and fill it up with tap water, dechlor, check chemical composition add chem's, (Plant fertilizer etc) then tip into tank.

Now my tank is sitting on a sturdy stand, but it has just 4 legs supporting it. So once when I was filling up a bucket, I looked up to see my Red Tail Black Shark going skitzo, well I look down only to notice I've syphoned about half a gallon of water around the power cord's and extension leads. Bad Mistake. Fish went without power for 6 hours because I needed to make sure everything was dry.

I drained gallons of water onto the bathroom floor several times 'cause the hose slipped out of the bathtub. Sadly, we are on the third floor and allll the water goes right into the downstair's neighbor's unit.

I just didn't want to spend the $ to buy the longer length of hose to attach to the pump...now I get a sick feeling every time I do a water change on the 75 gallon..the memories of going downstairs to apologize to our very sweet neighbor.

I decided not to tell her it was dirty fish tank water pouring out of her ceiling. I got out the crowbar finally and pried the $ out for the longer hose. Prolly should have done that a few months sooner.

Happens to me once a month, usually because I'm on MFK when I should be watching the water level.

I was doing a w/c on the 55 in my bedroom, dutifully staring at the watched pot that is a tank filling...
when i happened to notice that the pacu's in the 125 in the living room had done some landscaping and all the anacris was wrapping around the intake of the filter.
i know what youre thinking, " please tell me he didnt.." but ya, i did.
looked at the 55, hell.. it still had at least 4 or 5 more inches to go, i got PLENTY of time. ugh. i went over, started scraping it off when i notice.. it's all still in good shape "I should re-plant this" and so, about an hour later, i've re- landscaped the 125 to MY liking. when suddenly, as i'm elbow deep, i get this sick sense that something is wrong. ya... never shut it off.
Did i mention i live on the second floor, and that i am very happy to have an understanding neighbor downstairs who has a newly painted ceiling and walls in his kitchen? or that im glad that the gallons of water that were in the BASEMENT stayed away from all his stuff?
So now i'm like rainman and just sit there mutter something about " must watch the tank" when anyone tries to distract me lol
damn pacu's... i think they did it to me on purpose....

that happened to me about every week when i siphoned into a 4 gallon bucket, bcause i only had a 25 foot sink siphon and didnt reach the tank and id be on the comp and never could time it well would always usually get lost in a good thread and id look and the carpet would be a little damp

I was cleaning out my midas tank in my bedroom wit my python and didnt know my kids had thrown a cup into the sink stopping it up 50% change plus the sinkwater on my kit floor ... Just about flipped doing :nilly: this tryin to clean up lol
